inaugural Fellowship Awarded to Sydney Lundberg
Sydney Lundberg plans to bring her passion for the environment and photography to the fellowship.
Through the generosity of former Texas Tech University System Regent James Sowell and the former Center for Global Communication, Sydney Lundberg has been selected for Texas Tech University’s inaugural offering of the Livable Futures Student Fellowship.
Livable Futures FELLOWSHIP
The Livable Futures Student Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for an Honors College, in good standing as defined by the Honors College handbook and with a GPA of at least 3.5, to play a high-profile role in leading this initiative and communicating its vision and accomplishments.
The Livable Futures Student Fellow works closely with Dr. Bryan Giemza, the faculty director of Livable Futures. They will:
- become a resident researcher in the Sowell Family Collection;
support related programming, outreach and engagement; - help to coordinate and communicate with its constituencies, especially students;
- serve as an ambassador and colleague for Livable Futures and other campus sustainability initiatives;
- and gain valuable experience as a project manager.
Applications for the Livable Futures Fellowship will open in 2022.
WIKIPEDIA work
honors students create collection page(S)
As a special initiative of HONS 1304, students in Bryan Giemza and Andy Wilkinson’s class created a first-ever Sowell Collection wikipedia page, becoming editors, writers, and better critical thinkers via the Wiki Education program.

LOREM IPSUM DOLOR
CREATING LIVABLE FUTURES
Creating Livable Futures prepares students to communicate, in a fully interdisciplinary and global way, the challenges posed by pressing issues that speak to our collective wellbeing and sustainability. The project leverages the rich holdings and perspectives of TTU’s Sowell Family Collection in Literature, Community and the Natural World.
The campus-wide initiative is underwritten in part by The Center for Global Communications at Texas Tech.
“While specialization is critical to developing expertise in any academic disciplines, such proficiency alone has the potential to silo student thinking. The Center for Global Communication (CGC) at TTU challenges academic programs to link curricular content to current and projected global challenges.”
“The goal … is to promote student awareness of and engagement in current global challenges as such challenges relate to their academic pursuits.”
Sowell Residency Program
Applications for the Sowell Residency Program will open in 2022.
