An award winning essayist, author, and short-story writer, Barry Lopez played a key role in the creation of Texas Tech University’s Sowell Collection. A master of fiction and nonfiction, Lopez’s work is closely attuned to human relationships with place and reflects his lifelong friendships with indigenous people. Over the course of his career, Barry Lopez was the recipient of the National Book Award as well as several fellowships from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the John Burroughs Society, the Orion Society, and other prestigious institutions. –Sydney Lundberg
