The success of Gretel Ehrlich is as widespread as her fields: a world traveler, writer of fiction and nonfiction, poet, and film editor/producer. Her works demonstrate her love of wilderness as she writes about diverse environments in places including Wyoming, China, Greenland, and the Arctic. Gretel Ehrlich has received many awards including the 2010 PEN Thoreau Award and has been published in magazines including National Geographic, Traveler, and Orion. Her latest book, Unsolaced (2021) is in dialogue with her breakout book, The Solace of Open Spaces (1985), a reflection on the toll of climate change and extinctions.
