A native west Texan, Max Crawford’s familiar country was the caprock around Blanco Canyon, Texas. A Wallace Stegner Fellow, he is perhaps most remembered for Lords of the Plains (1985). Communist, are set in California. A bon vivant and natural storyteller, Crawford published audaciously across many genres, writing poems, reviews, and satires with equal verve.
